the Price of a Smog Check

I was required by the state to get a smog check before I could register my car. I found the closest place to my apartment. I had been there before to purchase gas and everyone seemed trustworthy and friendly. The problem is they not only test, but thet repair too. I think I over spent on the test, then they offered a list of services my car desperately needed.

I will never go back to this place. First, the cost is much higher than everywhere else. I was a sucker to think that a mom and pop shop would cost less than a chain store. Second, I'm quite certain my car wasn't in the bad shape they made it out to be. I might be wrong, but I hate not knowing and I hate questioning myself.

The biggest piece of advice I can offer is go to a test only facility. I am awfully young to be this cynical, but I just don't trust anyone anymore. I am afraid that they found things wrong with my car that did not need to be fixed. They came back to me with a huge laundry list of things to repair or replace. Go to a place that only does tests. The piece of mind is worth it.
