Description of service
The therapist first explained the different zones of the hands and feet. He explained how each area of the hands and feet are connected to particular body systems and to the health of those body systems. Then he assessed my particular lifestyle and health problems. He asked if I stood for long periods, what kind of shoes I wear, do I always wear socks etc. I was asked to remove my socks and shoes and to lay on a table. I was offered the alternitive of a recliner but found the table to look more comfortable. The therapist said he would be using oil and asked if I had a favorite scent or did I prefer non scented oil. I choose non scented because my sinuses and allergies bother me.Because I have problems with my sciatic nerve, the therapist did a special massage and heat treatment to the heels of my feet. Then because I have sinus problems, the therapist did a massage and heat treatment of my toes where that zone is located. The therapist also used accupressure which felt like gentle pressure applied to these points on my feet. He went on to give me a full foot massage.
Review of Service
The service was excellent. The room was warm and well appointed. The therapist seemed very knowledgeable and impressed me by washing his hands, being well groomed and prepared for the session. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and was called back within 5 minutes. The therapist did a very good job collecting my health history and was very patient as I described my major problem areas (like my sinus headaches) and asked me what therapies I had already tried. He was very concerned that I had seen a doctor for my problems before seeking his services. He also took a great deal of time to explain refelxology and what exactly would happen. He talked to me through the entire session, warning me before touching me and constantly asked me if I had any pain. He offered me tea and water. He asked me if the room was comfortable, if I wanted it warmer or cooler and expressed concern for my every comfort. He also took time to tell me about himself, his education, experience and credentials. He asked me what I had heard about reflexology and what I expected from the treatment. He explained what I could expect and how I would feel. Afterward, he did not rush me out. He made sure I was feeling ok and saw me all the way out to the front door.
Tips
If you are pregnant, have foot sores or problems with your feet or if you are a diabetic you should consult with your MD before you seek reflexology. Wear very comfortable clothing. Bring your shoes that you wear most often as the therapist will look at your feet and your shoes. He can advise you about your foot size and shape, the support your shoes provide and he will even evaluate the type of socks you wear. I was invited to bring my own oil on a return visit and I was also invited to bring aroma therapy oils, scents and candles if I wished. I was also invited to bring my favorite cd to be played during the session as quiet background music. Before you seek treatment, research the clinic and the therapists. Don?t be afraid to ask probing questions about their background and experience. If available, ask for references from patients. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau in your town and ask about any complaints lodged against the business or the therapists. You can save some money by going to a school of reflexology as most offer discounted sessions for their students hands on study. As with any treatment, be careful and selective of who you pay your money to for a service.
