Description of service
The massage itself lasted for 30 minutes and cost $55. This particular spa imposes a mandatory 20% gratuity, which came to $11.00. The service began with a brief consultation. Then, the therapist left me for about ten minutes with my feet soaking in a hot herbed bath. During the massage, she was respectful of my desire for quiet and avoided all conversation, except to ask about pressure. Overall, I spent just under three hours at the spa, enjoying the amenities in addition to the massage service.
Review of Service
I was surprised by how relaxing the massage was. I had never had reflexology before, and I was concerned about having my feet rubbed, since I am very ticklish. I shared these concerns with the therapist, and she was very understanding. My only complaint would be about the massage chair. It was basically a glorified desk chair that could be adjusted to each client's height, which made leaning back to relax awkward. I will definitely have another reflexology massage in the future.
Tips
A lot of nail salons advertise "reflexology" as an additional service during pedicures, but it is actually a complex massage technique that requires certification. A licensed massage therapist is your best option for a good reflexology treatment.
Reflexology can actually cost more, minute-by-minute, than a traditional full-body massage. Having it done at a full-service spa that offers other amenities, such as a whirlpool or steam room, can make it more economical. The reflexology treatment can become part of an entire afternoon of relaxation.
Ask about policies pertaining to gratuities at the time you book the appointment. Some spas only accept cash gratuities, while others may make them mandatory and simply include them in your bill.
