Description of service
On a recent road trip, my ignition module (in the steering column) froze. I was unable to turn the key to start the car. I had to have the car towed to a service facility capable of replacing the entire ignition module. Unfortunately, the facility did not have the parts in stock that were needed to complete the repair, so I had to spend the night in Savannah waiting for the parts to be overnight expressed to the facility. Once the parts arrived, the repair was completed in two hours' time and the car was ready to be driven home.
Review of Service
Although I was pleased with the work that the facility did (I have not had a problem with the ignition since), I was annoyed that the parts were not in stock, especially since the facility was a dealership. I also would have preferred to receive more than one key that fit the new ignition, but I was supplied only one, which meant that I had to come out of pocket again to have a spare cut. I did appreciate that the facility took care of my problem right away, in recognition of the fact that I was on the road and needed to get back home.
Tips
If you drive a Lexus RX300 with 100,000 or more miles on it, have your serviceperson check the integrity of your ignition module. I have since heard about this happening to other owners, and when it does, you are pretty much out of luck unless you can get the vehicle to a Lexus dealership. Better safe than sorry.
