Description of service
It's a temporary hair straightening, uses something like a curling iron but flat. A straightening iron, I guess. The cost included a cup of tea and some odd chat about how they never get guys in for anything. Since it was done at a salon, they have the usual mix of salon-type stuff including manicures/pedicures, hair coloring, perms, haircuts, styling, and sale of some rather expensive, but nice smelling hair care products. Prices go from $20 for a trim (!! that gets me two haircuts at my barber) to hundreds for elaborate hairstyles for weddings or other special events.
Review of Service
I have jaw-length hair that's between wavy and curly depending on how I let it dry. I got bored and decided to see what I looked like with straight hair. Didn't have a clue how to do it myself so I called my wife's salon and made an appointment. They said I could have it two ways, either temporary or permanent, which was a lot more expensive and, well, permanent. Since I'd never had straight hair before
I kind of liked the look, and managed to freak my wife out a bit when she first saw it. The conversation went something like: Her: what did you do to your hair? Me: nothing. Her: no, you did something to it, it's straight. Me: are you crazy, woman, it's always been like this. What's the matter with you? And so on.
It took her an hour's digging through old pictures to find one of me to prove to herself she hadn't lost her mind. Then I laughed and she beat me with a pillow as revenge.
Tips
I had no idea what was involved in doing this. Had I known, I would just have borrowed my wife's hair straightener gadget and done it myself. Could have saved the cash. Watch me write back in a few weeks when I try to do this myself and say something about how good my barber is at removing burnt patches of hair from my head...
