Description of service
I have naturally wavy hair and wanted to have my hair temporarily straightened by a professional salon. I have used at-home kits before and the results have ranged from little noticeable difference to good, but short-lasting results. Because I am male, it is also difficult to do it myself and without making a mess and making my home smell like a chemical factory.
The $65 actually included a haircut after the straightening because my hair is short--just long enough to tuck my ears, The cost for hair straightening is $65 and a haircut is $30, so I appreciated the complimentary haircut and made up for it with the tip.
Review of Service
Sometimes there are stylists who apparently would rather be elsewhere; other times the stylists are happy to have you as a client. I had the god fortune of having a stylist is the latter category.
We developed great rapport and the conversations were fluid and effortless. My stylist had to ask me to stop shaking from laughing so hard so that my hair would look like I wanted.
Each person I interacted with at the salon treated me with kindness and I felt like I was among friends. Now I know why the salon has been highly recommended.
I feel the service was, at worst, excellent. The complimentary haircut definitely made this a terrific value.
Tips
I would seek out strong recommendations for any salon before requesting this service, especially if you are a guy. I have seen hair that looks permed, damaged and brittle after professional hair straightening. I would also call any professional salon to determine if any of their stylists have considerable experience with men's hair. Lastly, ask to view a photo book of clients who have had the same service if one is available.
I would advise anyone to bring a friend if this type of service is the norm for professional salons. Even without a friend, I felt like I was at the salon version of Cheers.
