Description of service
Service was indicated by a consistent pull to the left. It just needed alignment
Review of Service
The car was accepted into the service queue at 9 am with about four cars ahead of it. Coffee and donuts--good for driver's spirit but not the physique--were provided in the waiting area, along with a loud television tuned a daytime talk show. This would not be remarkable if not for the three hours wait time for service to be completed. To be fair, the service manager was up front about the wait time and the car owner simply did not have a ride available on this particular morning.
For this type of wheel alignment service, the car is driven into a stand and four planar reflective surfaces are affixed to the wheels. These surfaces reflect laser beams transmitted from towers mounted on the stand, and the computer precisely calculates the adjustments without intervention by the technician, except to rotate the wheels. This reduces the chances of technician error or sloppiness affecting the result. Camber, caster, and toe are all checked. On some models, these are not adjustable, but the numbers for each measurement are recorded and reported to the driver.
The service was a success, and in this particularly city with its poor street quality, it is reassuring to know that alignment is guaranteed for five years, with free follow-up adjustments.
Tips
If you live in an area with rough roads, an alignment plan with a guarantee may be the ideal solution. For those who only need an occasional alignment due to an isolated event, a standard alignment service would be indicated.
