Description of service
Installation of four new tires and optional frond end alignment. Typically, a front end inspection is done when new tires are purchased, along with balancing the tires. The car may or may not need an alignment.
Review of Service
My car was out a few "points" so I paid for the alignment which brought the front end back "into spec". If the tires being replaced show signs of irregular or uneven wear, an alignment inspection needs to be done. If the car continues to be driven out of alignment, the new tires will wear more rapidly and continue the irregular or uneven pattern.
As for the balancing, the tires balanced out perfectly and did not "lose" their balance. Sometimes, a new tire will need to be rebalanced after several hundred miles as it takes on the shape of the wheel, conforming to small imprefections the wheel may have.
Tips
As with any job that requires a technical approach, the quality of the machinery the shop uses is important. This is especially true of wheel balancing machines. If you are able, get a glance at the machines the shop uses. Make sure they don't look old and worn out and that they do indeed have a digital readout screen on them. All the latest balancers have this.
