Description of service
Four half hour classes were arranged for a group of pre-kindergarten through kindergarten students. The lessons were held weekly for a month. The lessons focused on the introduction to rhythm and percussion to young children. It included drums, tambourine, maracas, and lectures on how to keep time. The lessons included the instruments being brought to the session by the teacher.
Review of Service
Have several children in the class reduced the cost per student. However, this reduced the quality of the instruction. The convenience of short half hour lessons was offset by the time required to organize the children, despite equipment already being set up. The lessons were fun for the 3-6 year old children, some of whom learned to keep time with a rhythm.
Tips
If more than one child is to have an introductory lesson to a musical subject, either budget an hour of time or ensure that the groups are small, with no more than four students.
Find out in advance if the lesson fee includes instruments or not. Two teachers at the same price but with different policies toward instruments will result in the teacher including the instruments being a better deal.
If the teacher provides the instrument, verify that everything is sterilized after use.
