the Price of Music Lessons

The cost of the lessons included a 30 minute lesson with a certified instructor. The lessons were scheduled on a weekly basis, but they were willing to work around the student's schedule to some degree. We usually had lessons on Thursdays at 3:30, but sometimes we could switch to a Saturday afternoon, if no one had that slot already. The instructor was surprisingly flexible. The lessons were arranged through a local music store. The instructor was an independent contractor, and the payment was made to the store into the teacher's account.

We were very pleased with this arrangement. The instructor was knowledgeable, but worked well with teens. Our son was a beginner with just a little background knowledge on the guitar, and within just a few weeks he had gotten down the basics. The instructor required daily practice, but since it was our dime, it was up to the student to follow through on practicing. If he hadn't done enough on his own, they just picked up where he left off and learned the material. Since our son was busy with a hard class schedule this worked well for us.

Call a few music stores and see if they offer this kind of arrangement. It works really well and is reasonably priced. It is flexible in the amount of commitment. We had lessons on a month to month basis and kept it up for about 6 months, which was enough for us.
