Description of service
We signed our son up for weekly bass guitar lessons at the neighborhood music store. They mostly sell music, and musical instruments and do repairs, but they have a little room in the back for lessons too. When we heard about that, we called to find out about getting a weekly lesson. They contact local people who give lessons whenever someone wants to set something up. We got 4 lessons for the fee and it included the beginning bass guitar book as well. The lessons usually lasted about 30 minutes. They were pretty good about being on time and not going over. They assigned home work each week and then went over it during the lesson time.
Review of Service
This set up worked out pretty well for us. Our son had started learning to play the bass on his own, but needed some help getting proficient. He took lessons for about 6 months and was happy with the instructor and the amount of learning he did as a musician during that time. He already knew how to read music, so they were able to concentrate on technique for the most part. The teacher he got was good with teenagers and was able to encourage him to get much better in a fairly short amount of time.
Tips
Ask people you know if they take music lessons. It is important to find someone who is a good teacher of kids. Sometimes the student/teacher relationship is not that good and it will make for a very uncomfortable time of lessons and they will not be motivated to improve either.
