Description of service
I saw an ad for a music composition seminar and lesson in my local paper, to be held at the community center. I signed up for it through the paper. The seminar was held in a conference room, and each participant was given a booklet of sheet music and lent a small piano keyboard for use. The instructor first demonstrated his abilities and showed off his compositions, then lectured for a little while on what works in music and why. The latter part of the lesson was more individual - we all worked on basic compositions, and the instructor came around to coach us.
Review of Service
This was definitely not a course for beginners or for people who don't already know a little bit about the way music works. I took it as a sort of experimental "maybe this will be fun" thing, and it ended up leaving me feeling a little bit out of my league. The instructor was a little bit of a drama queen and spent a lot of time showing off, but I had fun with a few friends who were there. Somebody's got to be the dumb one.
Tips
Figure out what you're getting into before you sign up. Sure, it was fun, but I wish I had some idea of the difficulty level before I got into it.
