Description of service
I paid 15 dollars for private lessons on the saxophone once a week that lasted 30 minutes. Basically what I got was a college student teaching me nothing. Basically all he did was assign a piece of music in a book and then have me play it when I came into the lesson. Of course I already had it down (because I can sightread very well) and so we would sightread some easy pieces and then he would assign me another piece to work on for the next week. Basically I didn't get anything out of it. I could of just practiced it on my own and done just as well.
Review of Service
Poor, I wouldn't waste my money on this again. Unless you have trouble staying motivation most private lessons would be worthless.
Certainly if you a very beginning student than it would be worth it, but once you have the mechanics of playing down it is totally useless.
It also might be helpful if it is for a child who wants to do competitions during school since most teachers have been through the process and know how the competition is. But if you just want to do it for fun and to help grow your skills, this may not be the best route.
Tips
Find out some background information on the teacher. If they do it for a living and not just a way to earn extra cash than maybe they would be better than some college kid.
