Description of service
Wanting to become more familiar with music in general as well as more comfortable playing specific instruments, I decided to take lessons. The cost was variable- either 30 dollars for a half hour, or 50 dollars for a full hour. The instructor was willing to come to my own home for an additional fee of 15 dollars per session. The lessons included materials- we used several music theory books and books of sheet music as well as actual instruction. The instructor would walk me through a basic musical concept (i.e. how to construct chords) and then we could use his instruments to put this theory into practice (playing chords on the piano or guitar or bass). He walked me through all aspects of music theory and harmony, as well as helping to develop my skills on piano, guitar, and bass.
Review of Service
The quality of service was excellent. Since the lessons were taken one-on-one, the instructor could focus on my specific strengths and weaknesses. He encouraged me to put the concepts we were working on to use when I practiced by relating them to music I already liked. He offered to take the music I enjoyed already and draw lessons from it if this would help.
Tips
If you are going to music lessons, make sure to have a specific goal in mind. This will help you decide what instructor or school is the best fit for you personally. Don't sign any contracts at first. Take a trial lesson if it's offered and see if the style of the instructor works with your personal style.
