Description of service
A total of 4 introduction to percussion lessons for young beginners was offered in a group setting. The teacher provided the instruments and brought them to the selected lesson site where all the students met. There were four lessons of 45 minutes each over a four week period.
Review of Service
The group lesson format of four children reduced the cost of the lessons, but it reduced the individual attention each student received. For the youngest children, little was learned because the teacher did not have enough time to do more than hand them instruments.
Tips
If you decide to save money by holding a group lesson, select those to share the lessons as having the same skill set. Otherwise, those with more skill lose out as the teacher helps completely new beginners.
Music lessons average $20-30 per hour for many instruments. By sharing a teacher, the cost comes down. A more ideal situation would have been two students of similar ability sharing the teacher, making the cost $10 per lesson per student. Thus it would be more affordable but they would still benefit from the teacher's expertise and attention.
When holding a group music lessons, ensure that everyone is on the exact same instrument. This affects the ease at which the teacher can literally have everyone on the same page.
