Description of service
Youth Football is an entry level type sport for the boy who wants to try football prior to middle school or high school sports. In our area it is very big, and most kids who play football in high school have played Youth Football, at least a few years. It is similar to other community youth sports. Kids sign up and are placed on teams according to age. They learn the basics of an offensive and defensive position. They try to give everyone playing time, but it is not going to be equal playing time. Some kids are more skilled and they play both sides of the ball. The fees include the uniform and some of the pads, but most kids have a lot of their own gear - at least by the second year. It includes your helmet too. The coaches are volunteers, with some training from coaching clinics.
Review of Service
It is a good program and they really give the kids a feel for the game. Some of the rules are different at the younger ages, to promote proper techniques and avoid injuries. This is a competitive sport, and you better be ready for that. It is a great way to learn the skills and the teamwork necessary for football at the higher levels.
Tips
In our area, they start in August - the hottest month of the year. Make sure your child is getting in shape prior to the first practice and keep him hydrated.
