Description of service
Youth Football is a community based organization that is able to put together teams for kids who want to learn the sport of football at an earlier age than they are able to turn out for a team in school. They take sign ups for a few weeks and then they put together teams based on age and interests. The teams start working out pretty strenuously in August and then the weekly games begin. At that time, practices taper off a little - also because school begins, so they don't meet daily any more. The teams put together a coaching staff made up of interested and skilled dads mostly and they do train them in coaching fundamentals. They provide the uniforms and some of the gear. You are responsible for cleats and the under garments needed. Some kids get their own pads, but some can usually be checked out for the season as well.
Review of Service
This is a good organization that puts kids into a team situation to learn the skills and plays in the game. It is a great way to get started in football. The best way to learn this game is to practice for it and play it. So this is a good way to find out if your son likes playing this type of contact sport. They keep the rules pretty firm about how to hit and how to play and they teach the kids about the right and wrong way to do things.
Tips
You don't need to go out and buy all brand new gear when you are just getting started. We have formed a message board where people can exchange things they don't need any more or sell their gear when they are done with it or have outgrown it. It can be expensive to buy everything, so this is a great way to promote community and save money!
