Description of service
Little League is a community based organization that promotes the national pass time: Baseball. It is one of the oldest and best organized programs for baseball. Kids are placed on teams according to their age and abilities - as determined by a "try out". I have not heard of anyone getting cut, but it helps the coaches choose players that are otherwise unfamiliar to them. Teams practice for several weeks prior to the start of the games. Each player receives group instruction and coaches try to teach the skills of the game, as well as the rules and teamwork needed to prevail. The price covers use of the uniform and a hat to keep. Sometimes we had to purchase socks and a belt in addition to cleats, bats, batting gloves etc.
Review of Service
The teams do a fairly good job of working with kids to learn the sport and execute the skills involved. The rules ensure that all the kids that show up, get to play, but equal playing time is a thing of the past. Winning is the goal, but not at all costs. We have seen our kids develop a good sense of teamwork and sportsmanship from their involvement. Most of the coaching staff really love baseball and many of them also like working with kids. Once in a while, you get a coach that does not connect well with the kids or is not experienced in baseball, but for the most part, it works out pretty well.
Tips
In our area, the season starts before the warm weather. So be prepared for rain and wind! We bring propane heaters and all huddle around.
