Description of service
Little League Baseball is a fairly well known institution for anyone looking for a baseball team for their child. From T-ball and up to high school age, they get you on a team with a coach or two and teach you the fundamental rules and skills involved in this game. Your experience may be determined in part by your coach - how much baseball he has played and how he is able to relate to the age group of kids involved. It is usually a dad of one of the kids on the team that volunteers to be the coach and then puts together a team from the kids that sign up in the specific age group. You have 2-3 practices each week for about 3 weeks, then the games start and they can be any day of the week and as the kids get older, you will travel to different fields. In our area, we travel pretty far at the Middle School age level. It is usually easy to get carpools, so it's all good.
Review of Service
The coach usually gets a couple other dads involved to volunteer to help out with the practices - that is a BIG help. Then they can each use their own talents and experiences to help teach the boys the skills they need to work on. It is nice when they can break up into smaller groups to work on pitching or fielding as needed. Our son was able to get some individualized attention in this way. Normally there is no way to do that, but it is great when it works out. Our coaches the past few years have really focused on being a team player and good sportsmanship. That is one of the keys for me - teaching good character on the field is so important and we saw it modeled very well.
Tips
You need a few things for your uniform, but they supply the jersey and pants and hat. Sometimes they provide a belt too but you will need to purchase socks to match the team colors.
