Description of service
My local non-chain arts and crafts store has lessons once a month on a Saturday morning. It always has something to do with the nearest holiday or current season. The one I went to was bow-making in preparation of the Christmas holiday.
Review of Service
It may seem like $12 is a lot of money to learn how to make bows, but as it turns out, it was cheaper than if I had just bought the ribbon and struggled with it myself.
The class was 1 1/2 hours long and we learned to make 8 different kinds of bows. We used different kinds of ribbon material, even rope, and learned what size bow to make for the item we were attaching it to.
She also taught us about the streamer that hangs down from the ribbon - that's just as important as the ribbon itself.
After the class, we were given a "starter pack" of samples of all the different kinds of materials we used in the class. Each sample had enough material to make three bows. After the class, I was looking around the store (the main reason they sponsor the classes, of course!) and I priced, just out of curiousity, the cost of the materials we had gotten with our class. I would have paid probably close to $30.00 if I had bought them on my own - AND, I knew how to make the bows.
Tips
Check out your local stores - chain stores and locally owned.
Also, if you are really good at some craft, they may even let you teach a class. I did that for wreath making and they gave me $50 gift card to their store.
