Description of service
I took a six-week long stained glass class at the local stained glass shop. $80 covered the cost of the class, but the materials for the class cost me about $150 in addition to that. If I had been less frugal or willing to compromise, I could easily spent another $150 on materials and supplies.
The classes were two hours long, once a week for six weeks.
Review of Service
The teacher was the owner of the shop, and he was extremely knowledgeable and also experienced at teaching his craft. The class was dedicated to the copper foil technique of stained glass. It's pretty difficult to cut glass into specific shapes and sizes using freehand tools, and the teacher was patient and had lots of good teaching strategies to help us to not get too frustrated.
It seemed rather normal that everyone in the class ended up with a much more difficult project than is advised for beginners, and the teacher took that in stride and worked hard to make sure everyone felt successful and pleased with their end results.
Tips
I was honestly a little shocked at the cost of materials that were necessary for this class. It's not like stained-glass supplies are something we all have hanging around the house, so I was frustrated that I had no choice but to shell out for some items. I would definitely recommend that anyone interested in this type of class spend a little time either bargain shopping or borrowing the tools, unless you are certain that glass will be your new hobby.
