Description of service
The class instructed beginners to the textiles craft area in the technical details of screen printing. Part of the class price is $40 in class materials. This included a very nice brushed aluminum screen, which does not warp or rot like wood screens, and is very lightweight, important for the lengthy process often spent bent over a deep table. Dyes, chemicals, emulsion, emulsion remover and use of the laundry, power washing, deep sinks and 24x7 studio were included in the price. The classes were 6 hours a week for approximately 15 weeks.
Review of Service
The service the instructor provided was exceptional. Decades of experience in teaching adults and an active studio effort in continuously producing new screen printed art allowed the instructor to really deliver. The emphasis was not on trendy simple-minded t-shirt printing, but on yards and meters of a variety of fabrics, from light habotai silk to heavy scoured linen. The technical complexities of creating a design for seamless repeating in print in a variety of repeat modes is conceptually difficult to communicate; however, the instructor of this class served our class well with many samples and being accessible and eager to teach.
Tips
The only advice I have is make the most of your interests! Regardless if you end up with a great teacher or a bad teacher, still stay objective in scanning all the classroom, instructor and your peers have available to offer. Network and build your art community because art is often learned spontaneously and organically long after a bad instructor has been forgotten.
