Description of service

I took a class in gelatin monoprinting. The class included instruction of how to work in this medium as well as all the required materials: gelatin plate, various printing inks, unlimited paper, stencils and tools. We were also able to take our individual gelatin plates home so that we could continue the process on our own.

Review of Service

This was a wonderful class and a great value. It lasted 4 hours. I would have been satisfied even if I had paid a little more for the class. The instructor was a working artist as well as a very good teacher. She gave very clear and detailed instructions on the procedure and many creative tips on how to get the best results. She was encouraging and supportive but gave everyone the room to discover the process on their own. The use of materials was unlimited and she was not at all stingy with supplying them. In fact, she kept encouraging people to make as many prints as possible in the time allowed.

Tips

Make sure your teacher is actually practiced in the craft and not just cashing in on a current trend. Wear clothing you don't care about or bring an apron. Don't be afraid to experiment and don't worry about embarrassing yourself or whether other people's art is "better" than yours. Use the time to explore so that you really get your money's worth.
