Description of service
Bumper cover replacement. Removal of damaged bumper cover, paint matching, painting, finishing and installation of new bumper cover*. Garage also touched up paint on several other parts of the vehicle. Paint = $150, Labor = $125. Because of the purchase volume of paint required for the color of my vehicle I was required to purchase a larger amount of paint for my vehicle (rural area, very few vehicles of that make), but was told that if I need any additional touch up or paint work I would not need to pay for the paint, just the labor.
*Purchased separately online for $230.
Review of Service
The garage I went to provided great advice on how to maintain the look of the bumper cover post-service due to the fragility of paint not applied at the manufacturer. The technician walked me through the job to make sure I approved of all the work that was done and also walked me through all expenses on the bill--parts, labor, etc. I thought the service was excellent. I was promptly added to the schedule and the vehicle repair was completed on time and on task.
Tips
The biggest tip that I can offer would be to investigate online (or in parts manuals) how much the parts involved in repairing your vehicle actually cost. Can you purchase replacement parts online cheaper? Can you get used parts and have the refinished to match your vehicle? Always get pricing from more than one vendor and tell the vendors that you found someone for less if you care to use a familiar vendor.
Before the service was performed I would have liked to have known that paint applied at the body shop is not as tough as paint applied at the factory. I would have waited until Spring to avoid winter conditions (anti-skid gravel on roads, rock salt) that could chip the paint.
