My bumper got knocked off when I was rear-ended and the insurance chose a repair shop. Overall, the cost was $350, with $12 of tax for a total of $362. This covered replacing the bumper with a new one and painting it.
Review of Service
Overall, the service was good. I had no idea what getting a new bumper would entail, but the repair shop had it down pat, it only took one day and they handed the keys back to me. The service was great, and they even washed my car while they were at it. Since I didn't have a car they drove me back to my apartment and picked me up the next day when my car was ready.
Tips
If your bumper ever gets knocked clean off your car or damaged, it's not all that bad. Repair shops have the whole process down to a science, and they can replace the bumper overnight if you get there early enough. Make sure they match the paint, which in my case wasn't any issue at all.
Also it's a good idea to check for fit and finish before you drive off the lot. Is the bumper misaligned or offset? Is there any rattling when you drive? Make sure you check in case further repair is needed.
