Description of service
We took a train from outside of Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon Village. The cost included a one night stay at the hotel near the train station, the train trip from the hotel to Grand Canyon Village, and a bus tour of the Grand Canyon south rim, lunch included. It even included entertainment as on the trip back from the Canyon, this antique train we were on was stopped by old west "bandits" on horseback. The train was boarded and the bandits proceeded to pretend to rob the train, and ended up singing to us!
Review of Service
This was a great family trip. The service all the way was efficient and kid friendly. The hotel was nice, the buffet reasonable, the train was beautiful, the scenery incredible. The tickets were purchased through a travel service. The antique steam engine type train was on time boarding and leaving the station, refreshments were served along the way and a dining car was available in case you wanted more than just a snack. The employees were all very nice and answered questions about the area we traveled through. We arrived at the Grand Canyon Village on time to meet the bus for our trip around the rim.
Tips
Definitely spend a little extra and get the best seats in the best car. We walked to the back of the train and through the economy ticket section. It was hot, dusty and windy. We were glad we had seats with air conditioning. Ask if there are refunds in case of mechanical problems or weather related cancellations. Ask if refreshments are included, if there are any stops along the route for shopping or sight seeing, and if they offer package deals. We were just going to get the train trip until we looked at the great package deals they had. Ask if you can bring a cooler or picnic along if you are trying to economize.
