Description of service
Round trip transportation between historic Lahaina village and the Kaanapali resort area on the Hawaiian Island of Maui. The trip is approximately twelve miles round trip and takes about 90 minutes for a round trip ride. During the trip, tourists are able to see Maui's natural beauty, including its volcanic mountain ranges and beautiful beaches. Guests also travel through vast sugar cane and pineapple plantations. Narration is provided by a Hawaiian native who tells guests the history of the island, and what they are seeing in a fun and educational manner.
Review of Service
I found this tour to be one of my highlights from my stay on Maui. In my opinion, there is something romantic about a train ride, and during this tour you can almost feel as if you are being transported into the past into the times of pre-Statehood Hawaii because of the sights, sounds, and skills of the narrator.
Tips
I would avoid any train that leaves after sunset because you are less likely to see any of the sights, and it might be a bit chilly. Also, be sure to ask the conductor for recomenndations on where to sit, because some seats afford better views than others. If you are taking the train from Kaanapali, then there is a 30 minute wait at Lahaina that you can use to explore a bit of the village.
