Description of service
I took a tour of the brown line El train in Chicago. The cost of the tour was $15. The tour guide did not accept tips.
Review of Service
This was a pretty big disappointment as I'd taken a similar tour on a different train line and had very high expectations. This tour was slightly cheaper so I thought I'd give it a shot.
The first problem was that even though these tours are only offered once a month they'd booked the tour during a festival downtown. This meant the cars were very full and it was difficult to hear our tour guide or to see out the windows at what he was talking about. I really thought it should have been better planned to be held during a time when there wasn't a scheduled event that meant heavy traffic.
Another problem was that the tour guide basically just read a script. At the beginning some people asked questions but when it became clear that he didn't know much beyond what was on his papers, we all stopped asking questions and just tried to hear what he had to say.
Tips
Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. Find out how much training the guides have before you give your money away.
