Description of service
There is a train you can catch out of Mount Dora that goes around little municipalities like Taveres. The cars are all refurbished and some are privately owned. The cost of the tour is minimal and it makes for a nice ride all around the old orange grove and historical areas. It includes a narrator and takes about 45 minutes. The narration covers local history and current events, like highlights from the annual art show. There are loads of stores all around the depot where you can have tea, buy books, or antiques.
Review of Service
This was a nice diversion for the afternoon. Mount Dora is a good alternative to the noise and touristy stuff in Orlando. Have lunch in town then walk towards the piers on the lake, The train station - which is really just a refurbished box car, is easy to find. The tickets are cheap for day tours, but they do feature a variety of different packages that include dinner and entertainment. There are also package tours for special events, like Presidents day, or other things dependent on the season.
Tips
If you buy tickets for the train at the Mount Dora Visitor's Center, they are a little cheaper. The train people only seem to be available during the day time - even if they have night tours, so call early if you want to go on one of the extended package tours at night.
