Description of service
I took a class to learn medical transcription. It was held at a woman's house. $150 included tuition and all materials. It also included a guarantee that she would make sure I got a job in transcription within a year. The class included four people. We learned how to use a pedal that starts and stops the audio while you transcribe. We also learned what things to keep in and what things to leave out when transcribing, such as 'um's' and other words of that nature.
Review of Service
I do feel like I learned a lot. Before going to the class I wondered what they could really teach us. I thought typing was just typing but there are definitely lots of tips and the equipment used is a bit intimidating at first. I found the instructor pleasant and knowledgeable. I do feel I was mislead with the 'guarantee' to get a job though. It took her almost four months to find something for me and then it was just one transcription as opposed to an ongoing arrangement like she had implied. I did eventually find work elsewhere so am overall glad I took the class.
Tips
Make sure that your materials are included in the cost of the class. I would recommend buying the foot pedal so that you can come home from the class and practice. I didn't buy mine until a few months after the class ended (when I finally found work) and I was a bit rusty when I tried to use it again.
