Description of service
Cam cover gasket needed to be replaced. Oil was leaking through the gasket and after a few attempts to fix it myself, I decided it was time to take it to a professional.
I called to set up an appointment to bring the car in. When I drove to the auto shop, the receptionist greeted me and told the mechanic that I was here for my appointment. He took me into his office and took down the basic information and offered me a ride home while they kept the car.
Review of Service
Despite having an appointment, the mechanic didn't even get to the car until 2 PM. I had called to find out how the work was coming along. Wasn't happy but the work needed to be done. The mechanic told me that the car would be ready before 5 PM. I asked him if I could leave the car there and pick it up the next business day. He said no problem. After I picked up the car and drove it around, I opened the hood and check to see if there were any leaks and there weren't. Problem fixed. I know mechanics get backed up but I wish he would have called me to let me know instead of me having to call. Would I go back again? Yes.
Tips
Just be prepared for any type of auto work to take longer than the mechanic estimates. Invariably, unless the job is really minor, there will be problems that will delay the work. If you expect it to take longer and the job is done sooner, it's a bonus.
