Description of service
Replacing the air conditioning compressor with a refurbished compressor that I purchased from a car junk yard.
I live in Florida, which is know for its heat and humidity. So here, air conditioning is an essential part of every day life. Especially commuting to and from work in your vehicle. When mine went caput mid summer, with the way the economy is going I didn't know what I was going to do. Cars are expensive to upkeep, especially when something major goes wrong, and I just didn't think we had the money to fix it. I did a little research and discovered that some auto garages will allow you to purchase your own parts needed, and then only charge you for labor. This cuts out the middle man and their profit share on the actual part!
Review of Service
I called a few local junk yards and due to the fact that my car is a popular make and model, it was more than easy to find a compressor in like new condition pulled and refurbished from an identical car. Not to mention, the junk yard guaranteed all of their parts for 30 days after installation if anything were to go wrong.
I made one call to a local garage, and not only were they completely friendly over the phone, they made a same day appointment for me because I already had the part needed for the job. It took under an hour for them to replace the compressor, and their customer service was top notch. They even remembered my name when I walked through the door to pick it up!
A procedure that can cost in the upwards of $600.00 or more only cost me a grand total of $177.89 including parts and labor. The work was fantastic and the service superior. Over all I am more than pleased with my choices.
Tips
I recommend purchasing refurbished parts from local junk yards. Also, call around town to a few places to make sure that they will use your own part, and that they will not charge an extra fee to do so.
