Description of service
I paid to have a rebuilt transmission put in my Impala after the original transmission quit working. The rebuilt transmission has a 1 year or 20,000 mile warranty. This cost included a follow up visit after 300 miles so the service technician could top off the fluids and make sure everything was working correctly. Towing was not included, I used my auto club card to get a tow.
Review of Service
The service was good. The technician communicated well with me about the challenges with Impala transmissions and the advantage of a rebuilt transmission. The garage service manager also communicated well and answered all my questions up front about the cost, how long it would take to complete the repairs and what the warranty covered. They were one day late finishing the repairs, they had a delay getting the part. I felt like that was acceptable, I would rather have them take their time and do it right, and they called to tell me as soon as they knew the part would have to be shipped in. The shop was clean and when I got the car back it was clean too, probably cleaner than when I took it in. The car has been running fine since the repairs.
Tips
A mechanic is like a doctor, so a referral is good, ask your friends if they know anyone who does the work you need done. Definitely call around and compare estimates. Ask if they are going to replace the transmission with a new or rebuilt one. Be sure you know what the warranty covers before you agree to the service.
