Description of service
My son's Impala needed new brakes. I took the car to the mechanic we always use. He replaced the front and back brakes. He also replaced the pads and rotors. Labor cost was $276 and Parts cost was $380.60. The mechanic also charged us a shop/environment ? fee of $15. I'm not sure exactly what that is. Tax was $27.69. Total cost was $699.29.
Review of Service
The service was excellent as always. I took the car in and it was ready the next afternoon. I was, however, surprised about the cost. I wanted to take the car to a different mechanic that one of my friends has used and says is very reasonable as well as good. But, my husband just wanted to get the car fixed and wasn't concerned about the cost. I feel the cost was high for what was done. I have to admit that the brakes work very well and ,in fact, are really tight. I had to get used to that. But, I do feel I could have spent less at a different shop and still gotten good quality service.
Tips
My advice is to call around and get estimates. I wish I had. I know I could have gotten a better price than this mechanic charged. Of course, you want a mechanic who you can trust to repair your car well. It's not worth saving money if the car isn't safe to drive.
