Description of service
Last month, the starter went out on my Chevrolet Caprice. I knew it was the starter by the grinding noise it made when I tried to crank the engine to start. I found the directions online on how to fix it myself, but didn't have enough confidence in myself to do it, so I called around to a few mechanics to find one that would do it the cheapest. I found one that quoted me about $200, but the actual cost was $225 after parts, labor and taxes.
Review of Service
The service was great. I had never used this particular mechanic before but was very pleased by the end results. My car is starting perfectly again, and I got it done at a low price. The mechanic's shop was kind of dirty, but nothing more than what you would expect and the staff was polite, so I really have no complaints.
Tips
I called around to different shops because I knew what was wrong and I was able to get a verbal quote. If you don't know what is wrong and just say "it won't start" the mechanics won't be able to give you a quote, so calling around for the best price is useless. Ask around to family members to see if they know what is wrong, or if they or someone they know can fix it for you.
