Description of service
The part replaced on our Suburban was a part of the transmission called the transfer case. The part itself cost $900 and the labor cost $200.
Review of Service
The service was received was of good quality. When the mechanic first put in the replacement part and took it for a test drive he was not satisfied with how the vehicle ran. He took it upon himself to obtain another part and replace it at no further cost to us. The labor charges were reasonable for the amount of time the job took. The cost of the part was high, but it seems that is just what that part costs.
Tips
If you should find yourself in the situation of needing a high priced part, especially for an older vehicle such as mine, I would recommend a used part. If using a mechanic ask them about the possibility of obtaining a pre-owned part and how feasible that might be for your specific repair. Even though in this case the used part cost us $900 it was still a bargain. A new transfer case would have cost us around $1300. So, we found it reasonable to buy a pre-owned part to save a bit of money on this pricey repair.
