Description of service
The $20 was my co-pay. This doctor is not a psychiatrist, but he is very knowledgeable about medications for mental health. At each appointment (every month or two) he figures out how my meds are working.
Review of Service
It is really difficult to find a psychiatrist who is taking new patients and I needed to be seen. Through another doctor I found this one and I have been very happy with him. He really listens to what I have to say and he involves me in figuring out what the next step should be. We discuss the options in terms of medications and he tells me what the side effects are and how each one works. My opinion counts here, which is really great. It has taken awhile to find a combination of meds that work but I am doing really well thanks to the fact that this doctor makes it a priority to listen.
Tips
Remember that any doctor can prescribe medications for depression and so forth, so find a doctor who has experience in that area, particularly if you cannot find a psychiatrist. You may have a friend who can recommend a good one, or you might get recommendations from your family doctor or from someone in the helping professions (psychologist, social worker, counselor, etc.).
