Description of service
The service received was routine labwork related to a yearly doctor visit. The doctor provided lab services in his office as a courtesy, the service was performed by the area hospital employees (who came to his office daily and then took the specimens back to the hospital, where the labwork taken care of). The lab request form was completed by the physician, but had the name of the local hospital on the top.
Review of Service
The quality of service was fine. Professionalism was used by all staff members. Being local proved to be a plus in getting the labwork done at home, and even during the same visit with the doctor. The major drawback was the price charged for the service. Even though the insurance company paid a portion of the bill, the lab charged substantially above the usual and customary for the region, resulting in me having a large balance to pay for the bottom line, in spite of still being in the network.
Tips
Make sure you know what the lab has been charging for services. Also make sure you know what your insurance company considers usual and customary in relation to services provided. Ask questions before leaving the office to see if the services can be performed by another laboratory, or does the use of the hospital form require that the services be completed by them?
