Description of service
It had become clear that my brakes needed some work so I took it in and was informed that all four sets could be replaced but only the front was necessary. They cleaned the rear brakes and replaced the rotors, pads on the front along with repairing part of the brake arm that holds the pads in place.
Review of Service
I was very appreciative that they worked with me in repairing and cleaning some items as the whole bill could have been closer to $500. There was a big difference in braking ability after the job was done and the car will be good for another ten thousand miles or so. At that point the rear brakes will need to be done. It was quite helpful that the Sentra is not too difficult to work on as labor was cheaper than I expected.
Tips
As always you will want to shop around. Most places will do a brake check for free but not all of them. I would never pay to simply have them checked since there are so many free options. Another hint would be to watch how you drive. If you are constantly speeding up and hitting the brakes hard rather than allowing the car to slow down naturally you are far more likely to wear through the rotors or even warp them prematurely. Mine had simply been used so long they were worn down otherwise I would have been in to have the job done 5-10k miles earlier.
