Description of service
A new starter needed to be installed in a 2001 Nissan Sentra. I paid a total of $255.00 for the service. The breakdown of cost is: $142.98 for parts, $60.00 labor, $52.02 state tax.
Review of Service
I was impressed with the speed and quality of service. I dropped the car off for my 7 a.m. appointment and the car was ready for pick up by 9 a.m. Many times I've had to wait a day to get my car back from repair but this time I had it back within 2 hours. My new starter is working great. The customer service was terrific. The mechanic called me to tell me there would be a delay because they didn't have the starter in stock and would have to go down the road to pick one up. They also quoted price to me and actually dropped the labor price a little bit when I told them I thought they were overcharging (at $80 an hour). I received a call as soon as the car repair was completed and was asked if I needed someone to pick me up so I could get the Nissan.
Tips
My advice is to make calls to several auto repair shops if you know what the exact problem is and get some price quotes. You may get 2 or 3 lower labor quotes from shops other than the one you usually go to or that is closest to your home or business. If you can state "*** quoted me X amount for the same service and so did ***" you can quite possibly barter down the cost of labor. I also advise shopping for the price of parts online to make sure that the price they are quoting you is reasonable and not marked up too much.
