Description of service
The repair that was performed on my 1991 Jeep Cherokee was a replacement of my worn-out fuel pump. This service included the cost of the new, replacement fuel pump along with the cost of installation of the new part. The shop that performed the replacement also had to tow my vehicle to their shop from my driveway because it would not start. In the previous week my Jeep had begun to exhibit difficulty starting, and eventually the engine just wouldn't start at all. The bill that I was given for the service broke the charges down to the cost of the part, labor, and tax, so they didn't charge to tow the vehicle. The fuel pump and the labor to install it each cost roughly the same, at just under 200 dollars each, and the remainder of the fee was for tax, which is just over 8% here. The repair was finished in one day. I was able to pick it up that afternoon after getting it in for the repair that morning.
Review of Service
I was very happy with the service I received, especially with the courtesy towing of my vehicle to the shop to repair it, which probably saved me another fifty dollars. I was also pleased with the timeliness of the repair since I was not inconvenienced and was able to pick up my car at midday. The mechanics were friendly and courteous, and explained the repair that they did to my vehicle, and showed me the old worn out fuel pump that they had replaced. They even explained what the function of the fuel pump is and why the car wouldn't start without it. They explained the terms of the warranty for the new fuel pump and said that I should bring the car back in if I had any more trouble. They also said they checked out my Jeep under the hood and everything else was running fine, so I was glad they didn't try to push any unneeded repairs on me, figuring I didn't know anything about cars.
Tips
I would advise bringing your car to a shop that you know and trust or that has been recommended to you by someone who knows a lot about cars. I was lucky because this shop had been recommended to me as very honest and not liable to overcharge or do unnecessary work. I would advise anyone to ask about courtesy towing if they need it and also ask about warranties for the service. It's also smart to ask to see your old part if you have a part replaced to make sure the mechanics actually replaced it.
