Description of service
The price that I was charged to replace the brake shoes on my 1996 Jeep Cherokee last year was $108.00. This price included replacing the brake shoes for the front and the back. This was a standard replacement for worn out brake shoes, as indicated by brakes that were starting to make a squealing sound and requiring more pressure applied to the brakes. This was at an independent garage or mechanic shop, not a big outlet. The whole job took just a little over an hour. This price included parts and labor along with tax which is about 8% here.
Review of Service
I was very pleased with the value of this service and the quality of the work done, as well as the integrity of the mechanic who did not try to charge me for any extra parts or unneeded work. I was also given a warranty to return in a year for complimentary replacement if I had any problems with my brakes. The mechanic was very curious and they had a waiting area so I was comfortable while I waited for the work to be performed. They did the job promptly and didn't keep me waiting.
Tips
I would advise that if you need any kind of mechanic work you should ask around to find a place that is honest and knows what they're doing. This is the best indication of a good garage in my opinion. You can call ahead to compare prices but don't just pick the cheapest mechanic. If you know anyone who is a car expert let them have a look at your car first so they can advise you if you need a mechanic or can fix something yourself. If you aren't sure about the mechanic I wouldn't trust my car to them, or at minimum I would try to watch what they were doing to my car.
