Description of service
I took my 1998 Jeep Cherokee into a local repair shop to have my water pump replaced. A couple of weeks prior to my visit I noticed that the vehicle would start to run hot even on short trips to the store. I had the repair outlet replace the water pump and any other parts that went along with it. I dropped the vehicle off in the morning and it was ready to pick up after work.
I had my water pump replaced at a local full service auto repair company. I had pretty much diagnosed the problem before hand so I did not have to pay for any future diagnosis. The job is fairly straight forward. They needed to replace the entire water pump and any other parts that was needed for the assembly.
Review of Service
I dropped my vehicle off before work and the mechanic informed me that it would be ready in the evening. I believe the total amount of work hours were about 4. Like in most vehicles, my water pump is a little difficult to reach. Like most, the mechanic had to remove and replace other parts just to get to the water pump. The total amount of the charges where about $300. The pump is relatively inexpensive but the labor hours charged and the expensive part. The vehicle was back to normal, there was no more problems with the vehicle getting overly hot and I was completely satisfied with the service and the charges.
Tips
I was lucky because my problem was easy to diagnose. But if you can't discover the problem with your vehicle then you would have to pay additional charges $70 for the diagnosis. Try asking a friend or a co worker of your vehicle problem. At times they are garage mechanics themselves and they can fix the problem for you at a lot less cost.
