Description of service
The service that I paid for at an auto mechanic garage was to have my tires rotated, front and back. I had noticed that my tires were wearing unevenly, with more tread wearing down on the interior of the tires than on the exterior. Someone told me I should have all my tires rotated to conserve on wear, and that I could get a lot more miles out of them if I had them rotated. When I brought my Jeep to the mechanic, they told me that I might need a front end alignment. But this was too expensive, so I just had the tires rotated. It took them less than an hour to complete the job, while I waited in their waiting area. The price that I paid was for labor only, plus about 8% sales tax, since I didn't buy any new parts.
Review of Service
I think the mechanic was pretty honest with me because he did tell me that for the best results I should get the front end of my Jeep aligned. He was honest enough to tell me that while rotation of the tires would make them last longer, it was kind of a quick fix, not a long term solution. For what I paid for, the mechanic performed the job well, even though it was just a temporary solution.
Tips
I would recommend listening to the advice of your mechanic, if you trust him or her, instead of just relying on the opinion of someone who may not know what they are talking about. I wish I had saved my money up to get the front end of my vehicle aligned instead of just rotating the tires because it wasn't too long before they started wearing out again. But that wasn't the mechanic's fault because he had warned me this would eventually happen if I didn't take care of the underlying problem.
