Description of service
My jeep was running off and on through most of my college education. Ultimately I ran into an issue where if I would step on the accelerator, the jeep would stall. I had to take it to the garage to see if they could figure it out. They said it was between one of two things - either it was the computer, or the fuel line filter. I was hoping for the fuel line filter because ECU's cost a LOT of money.
Review of Service
While a simple fuel line filter is cheap, it ended up being a good bit more expensive because the fuel system had to be flushed a few times. It was further complicated because jeeps aren't the easiest vehicles to work on (direct quote). Add in the towing fee, and you arrive at the 700$ that I described above. For a college student, this was simply too much money. Further, it ended up not even fixing the issue (though it did for about 2 weeks). In the end the jeep completely died and had to be given up for salvage. $700 and not having a working vehicle to show for it should never happen unless you're getting transmission repairs done. Period. I will not go back to that mechanic ever.
Tips
I wish I'd known a bit more about how cars work before I went in to this, because it ended up eating up money with nothing to show for it. I can't help but think that maybe if I had been able to speak to the mechanic more on their level, they may have been able to help me more.
