Description of service
My air conditioner compressor in my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire required replacement this summer. It was cracked and required a whole new compressor. The mechanic offered a reconditioned used compressor as an option for $100 less, but for the money I felt I would rather have a new one. So the cost of $600 included a new air conditioning compressor and labor to install it.
Review of Service
My air conditioning quit working early in the summer. Being a very hot time of year it had to be fixed. I had a friend put additional coolant in, but it quickly quit cooling again, which told me I had a leak. The mechanic told me the compressor had a crack in it, and needed replacing. I felt he was honest and reliable. He offered me a less expensive alternative of a used compressor which I declined. I felt that the price was fair for the repair made. Service was quick and efficient, I had it back in 2 days.
Tips
When something goes wrong with my car, I always have a friend who is knowledgable about car repair take a look at it first. If it is not a simple repair he is able to make, at least he is able to give me information about it so I know what to expect and don't get ripped off. So if you don't know about cars I recommend getting the advice of someone who does before visiting a mechanic. Also get price quotes from several mechanics on an expensive job.
