Description of service
My transmission was slipping and my check engine light was on. When I went to get it checked I was advised that my transmission needed serviced. The dealer advised that they could not repair it and referred me to another shop. They did advise that it was a common problem though. When I went to the referral shop I was advised that my transmission would require a complete overhaul. I had to pay $39.95 to have them perform the diagnostic test first. The $39.95 was credited to the total repair when I had it done. They installed a reconditioned transmission and and rebuilt the torque converter. They also advised that it was a common problem for Pontiac's.
Review of Service
The service was done in a timely and professional manner. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the repairs required.
Tips
I have found various web sites on the Internet where other Transport Montana users have stated that they have had similar problems, yet it has never been a recall item. The repair was required for various year Montana's and not just the 1998 that I have. I was fortunate that I purchased a warranty package when I bought the car used. The warranty paid $2150.00. If you do not have a warranty and if you can obtain one, I would recommend you purchase it.
