Description of service
I was not able to turn my key in the ignition. This was for my Toyota car that has around 90k miles on it. I took it to the nearby body shop and it turns out that the car ignition cylinder needs to be replaced. The total cost came around $250 with $100 for labor.
Review of Service
The auto mechanics did some inspection on my car and I was told that the ignition cylinder needs to be replaced. They were really quick in identifying the problem and looks like it is widely common with some of the older cars. I dropped off my car in the morning and picked it up in the evening. Though the problem got fixed, I drive around my car with 2 keys; one for unlocking doors and the other for ignition. However, quality of the service was good. The price I paid was much better than what I would pay if I were to get it fixed from the car dealer.
Tips
If you experience a similar problem with your car, I would suggest you to try moving the steering wheel back and forth and try turning the ignition. I was told by the mechanics, this might work in some cases but not always. In my case, it didn't work and I ended up replacing the ignition cylinder. When making a choice, take your car to the body shop that will workout cheaper. In some body shops, you can even buy the part that needs to be replaced which can save you another $25-$50.
