Description of service
The motor in the dish washer was not working. Whenever the dishwasher would start, it would make a grinding noise the entire time and there would be a foul smell, like the motor was burning out. They managed to do the repair in my house. They started by unhooking the dish washer from the plumbing and electrical, and moving it out from underneath the countertop. Then the next step was taking it apart, removing the old motor and installing in the new one, reassembling everything, reinstalling the dishwasher, and testing to make sure that it was operating properly. The cost included both the parts and labor. The entire process took about two hours.
Review of Service
The company was very professional, although, like almost any repair man, the appointment window of 7am to noon, was delayed and they did not arrive until well after 1 pm. The repairman was apologetic, if a little insincere, but they knew how to do their job without any difficulty. They put cardboard down where they would be working to protect the floors, and worked quickly and efficiently. All costs were explained and agreed upon beforehand. With the exception of them being a little late, which is almost expected, it was a very professional and reliable service.
Tips
If they are doing the repair in your home, the cardboard on the work area is a great idea. I have friends who have had similar services performed by other repairmen who did not do this and it resulted in damaged floors. Also, I always offer people working for me something to drink, especially in the summer, that way they can stay cool and refreshed and do not need to take breaks.
It is also a good idea to get multiple quotes, and not just from the people with the biggest most colorful ad in the yellow pages. I had a range of quotes that varied from $200 to $500, the more expensive quotes coming from the people with the biggest ads. I guess they have to pay for the ad somehow. But other than just price, things you should think about considering, in order to determine what is important to you: 1) Will the work be done in your home or do they have to take it back to their shop. 2) When can they do the work? 3) What kind of guarantee or warranty does the work have? 4) Are they licensed and/or certified? 5) Will they give you everything in writing and stand by the price?
