Description of service
On August 4th, 2008, mechanics at a car dealership in Norwich, New York performed an inspection and diagnostic testing of the air conditioning system in my 2003 Ford Explorer. The air conditioning system had stopped working several months ago. The bill was not itemized, but rather, there was a single fee.
Review of Service
It took over an hour just for the mechanics finish their tests. The waiting area was comfortable. The dealership offered to repair the air conditioner, however, their repair estimate was in excess of a thousand dollars. Due to the fact that the estimate was higher than I had expected, I chose not to have it repaired at that time. The service and professionalism of the employees were excellent. However, the price of the service was in my opinion excessive.
Tips
If I ever do have my Ford Explorer's air conditioner inspected again, I would check first to see the cost of inspection or a test. If I had known it was so expensive just for the mechanic to look at it and hook up the diagnostic machine, I would have chosen a different mechanic. In my opinion the cost to repair the system should have been lower. An independent mechanic would likely offer a lower price.
